Here are a couple of things you should look for when buying a fresh fish. Look at their eyes...They should be clear, bright and convex.
These fish in the market...well, not so much. I didn't buys these.
Then, take a whiff, if it smells fishy, pass it up.
Take a look at the fish's gills. They should be bright pink and fresh looking. 
Is not to hard to find the freshest fish if you know what to look for. Good luck and don't settle for 'almost' fresh.
